Ocular Surface Optometry Continuing Education Opportunities emphasize the treatment of disorders affecting the surface of the eye. In particular, dry eye syndrome, one of many conditions that affect the ocular surface, is thought to involve nearly 10% of the population in the United States. As many as 20 - 30 million people in the United States have early signs or symptoms of dry eye. Advanced dry eye affects an estimated 6 million women and 3 million men and can significantly impact quality of life. Ocular surface disease CE courses focus on the treatment and long-term prospects of such disorders, as there appears to be no shown unified cause. However, dry eye appears to be more common in older individuals (over 45).
