Annual Colorado Vision Training Conference

Did you know that a growing body of scientific research suggests that reading disorders can be caused by visual deficits? This link is the subject of the Colorado Vision Training Conference, another optometry continuing education conference to be held September 23-25, 2012, in Estes Park, Colorado.

In a rustic lodge setting adjacent to the Rocky Mountain National Park, you’ll learn how to diagnose and treat vision-based reading disorders during 15 hours of optometry continuing education (not COPE approved).

Classes are taught by Dr. Barry Tannen (OD, FCOVD, FAAO) and include a survey of relevant research and diagnostic tips to help you identify vision-based reading disorders. For example, you’ll learn to use diagnostic instruments such as standard optometric tests, Visagraph or ReadAlyzer, relevant educational screening tests, and newer tests to detect visual motion sensitivity defects, such as coherent motion and flicker frequency. You’ll also learn how to manage these disorders with a vision therapy program that includes hands-on procedures, programming, and sequencing. This training makes the optometry conference ideal for vision therapists, who pay a discounted registration fee when attending with their employing OD.

Dr. Tannen has written or co-authored more than 30 optometric education books. He lectures nationally and internationally on learning-related vision disorders, amblyopia, strabismus, and vision therapy. In private practice in Hamilton Square, NJ, he is also an associate clinical professor of optometry at the State University of New York College of Optometry and an adjunct instructor at the Southern College of Optometry.

The conference is held at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park—90 minutes from Denver and next to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Between conference events, you can enjoy fresh breezes from the mountains and the incredible blue of the Rocky Mountain sky.

The optometry conference has a limited number of rooms this year at the YMCA of the Rockies, so register early so that you do not have to arrange your own accommodations. Another advantage of early registration is the early bird discount of $45 off the registration fee. The conference also offers a special discounted rate to those who are attending for the first time. The optometric conference registration fee covers the optometry CE classes, and the lodging fee covers two nights lodging, five meals, snacks, and conference social events.
